Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a Brit-American sitar player and music artist. She is also the youngest and first woman to win the British House of Commons Award. Anoushka Shankar is among India's rising stars in the sitar. She's the child of Ravi Shankar and a former student. Born in London in 1982 and spent her early years shuttling from London and New Delhi. The first time she performed was at New Delhi at the tender age of thirteen. She then moved to Encinitas CA, where she earned her High School diploma with honors in the year 1999. Anouskha still has a promising career in recording and performing even though she's young. She has been performing with her father on stage for many years. The first album she released as a solo artist, Anourag, was released in 1998. Two years later she released the Grammy nomination-winning Live on stage at Carnegie Hall. Stage performances are a large part of her career. She's performed at many important venues across the world. Anoushka's career does not only comprise musical performances. In 2002 she published an autobiography titled Bapi The of My Life. of My Live this is a picture-based biography, which gives a special respect to her dad Ravi Shankar. In 2003 she starred as a Bharat Natyam dancer in Dance Like a Man. Her career continues to grow and she will continue to achieve great success in the future. Anoushka Shankar was born in England and spent a lot of her youth living between London and Delhi later relocating to California in the state where she attended high school. In Delhi during his birthday celebrations for his 75th birthday Anoushka first made an appearance performing the sitar before the crowd of at the age of four, following her nine year old father. As a part of her dad's band as he toured the world Anoushka racked up a wealth of experiences appearing at Carnegie Hall while still in her teens performing at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival, and also making recordings alongside George Harrison. She was the youngest and only female recipient of the House of Commons Shield awarded by the British Parliament for her musicianship and talent as a preeminent musician of in the Asian Arts.
